Creamos & mi eelo
Meet the makers of our home goods dust bags
Creamos ("we create" in Spanish) is a multi-service nonprofit organization situated in Zone 3 of Guatemala City. Located beside the Guatemala City Garbage Dump (GCGD), the largest dump in Central America, Creamos' mission is to empower the community by providing access to workforce training, emotional support, accelerated education, and employment opportunities.
Creamos was originally founded in 2008 by a small group of women from the community who had previously earned their income by searching the Guatemala City Garbage Dump for plastics, glass, or valuables to resell. These women initiated a small entrepreneurship program creating and selling paper beaded jewelry. This initiative has since evolved into the social brand and business known as Mi Eelo ("my thread" in Spanish) and Creamos has expanded it's social programs to serve more of the community through education, therapy, training and other employment opportunities. While Creamos has expanded significantly, the fundamental vision established in 2008 remains unchanged: providing dignified and safe employment for women.
Our partnership with Mi Eelo began with the launch of our home goods collection in 2020. Mi Eelo is responsible for screen-printing and sewing the cotton dust bags used to ship our 100% Wool Dryer Puffs and USA-Made Blankets. This year, we had the privilege of visiting the Creamos headquarters, meeting the Mi Eelo team, and touring the workshop where they sew our dust bags. We take immense pride in partnering with an organization that not only creates employment opportunities but also supports women in their professional and personal development.
